Shelter and Adoptions
The VBSPCA shelter finds homes for over 1,800 companion animals annually, including dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, gerbils, mice, hamsters and birds. These pets find their way to the shelter primarily through owner relinquishments or transfers from other shelters. We provide them with compassionate care, medical treatment, enrichment, and behavior training to help ensure they find forever homes.

Clinic
The VBSPCA Clinic offers low cost veterinary services to households with annual incomes less than $65,000; active duty military members, reservists, and their dependents; and first responders. In addition to seeing public clients, the clinic also provides veterinary services for all VBSPCA shelter animals. Services available at the clinic include spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, medical testing, grooming, diagnostics, dental and other surgeries, heartworm treatment, and heartworm and flea preventatives. Additionally, walk-in vaccine clinics are available to the entire community. Click here for schedule.

Neuter Scooter
The VBSPCA Neuter Scooter was designed to increase the number of animals the VBSPCA can spay and neuter each year. By going directly to communities that have less access to veterinary care, the VBSPCA is able to help reduce pet overpopulation. Since 2012, the Neuter Scooter 2.0 has been providing low cost spay/neuter surgeries, vaccine clinics to the Hampton Roads area, historic triangle (Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown), and the Eastern Shore. In addition to being a mobile vet clinic, our Neuter Scooter’s dual function is that of a Medical Disaster Response Vehicle.

Humane Education
The VBSPCA Humane Education Program cultivates kindness and empathy in children by teaching them to understand and respect the feelings of others. These programs are built on a philosophy of teaching that integrates respect, empathy, and compassion into educational lessons, stories, and everyday life. The Virginia Beach SPCA humane education programs include literacy initiatives, virtual activities, shelter tours, off-site educational visits, and the virtual educational arcade, Animal Heroes. The VBSPCA Humane Education programs are built on a philosophy of teaching that integrates respect, empathy, and compassion.

Volunteer
Volunteers play a central role in the delivery of the Virginia Beach SPCA’s mission of compassion, and we strive to create a rewarding experience for those who dedicate their time to our cause. Through collaboration and communication, staff and volunteers work together to create a positive and productive shelter environment, providing quality care to the animals and humane education to our community. Volunteers lend their skills and talents to aid VBSPCA staff in all areas of the organization, proving to be an indispensable resource to the Virginia Beach SPCA and the community in which we serve.

Events/Fundraisers
The VBSPCA remains actively engaged with the Hampton Roads community throughout the year. We offer several events to have fun while also supporting a great cause. Our signature events include our annual Wags & Whiskers Gala and the Puttin’ for Paws Golf Tournament.

Pet Pantry
The VBSPCA Pet Pantry provides pet food and enrichment supplies (for dogs and cats) for families experiencing unexpected economic hardship. Food donations from the community are used to support this program, and an application must be completed at the VBSPCA Shelter in order to be considered.

Visiting Paws
Visiting Paws partners VBSPCA volunteers with adoptable or alumni shelter animals, and together they offer brief companionship to residents in nursing homes and retirement communities, a positive distraction to collegiate students preparing for tests, and the joy of animal interaction to those residing in behavioral health facilities.

Beach Buddies
The Beach Buddies program invites members of our community to take adoptable dogs out for an afternoon, offering our canine residents a much needed break from the stress of shelter living. Buddies are able to observe animal personalities in offsite situations which offers valuable feedback to our kennel team who will help us find the right homes for these deserving pups.
