Small Animals
All small animals receive a vet exam prior to adoption.
- Rabbits: $50
- Guinea Pigs: $10
- Rats: $10 / $25 if neuter surgery needed
- Mice/Hampsters/Gerbils: $5
- Birds: $5
Additional Fees: Please note that if your animal has received extensive medical care while in the VBSPCA shelter, additional medical fees may be required at the time of adoption. The VBSPCA Miracle Medical Fund covers a portion of these fees and the rest is the adopter’s responsibility.
Long-Term Resident Discount: We offer 20% off the adoption fees for our canine and feline residents who have been in our shelter for an extended amount of time. This discount applies to dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens who have been available for adoption more than 30 days.
Post-Adoption Evaluation: If your recently adopted pet is showing upper respiratory symptoms or experiencing surgery-related complications, you may contact our clinic to schedule an evaluation if it is within 10 days of adoption. The exam fee will be waived, and any medications and diagnostics will be charged to you at cost. Complications outside of these parameters and/or occurring after the 10-day adoption period are the financial responsibility of the adopter.
