Organizational Updates

As a mission-driven organization, continuous improvement in our initiatives and constant evaluation of their impact are critical to our work. Every initiative is an investment in the animals and the people we serve; and, when an initiative begins to deviate from our core focus, we must reevaluate and adjust. If we do not, we can dilute our ability to deliver our mission to the community; and as a nonprofit, the ability to be innovative and nimble in operations is key to being sustainable. With this in mind, we have decided to make a few changes to our operations in the upcoming fiscal year beginning September 2019.

First, as of September 28th, the VBSPCA Pet Supplies and Adoption Center at Providence Square will be closing its doors and moving its people, products, and pets back to the central operations at the VBSPCA main shelter on Holland Road. The heart of the VBSPCA is at the Holland Road location, and our consolidation efforts will mean less travel time for shelter pets, decreased stress on the animals, shorter stays in our shelter with quicker access to the adoption floor, and streamlined access to medical care. It also puts our team under one roof, which strengthens our ability to meet the many daily needs of our organization more effectively and efficiently. We are very proud of the great work that was done while this location was in service to the community, including over 3000 adoptions in just 4 years, and we value our loyal customers in that location. It is our hope that they will continue to be a part of our community at Holland Road.

Second, we will be making an adjustment to our Wildlife Program and the wildlife services we offer the community. As of September 1st, the VBSPCA will be accepting injured wildlife only. Any orphaned wildlife must be taken directly to a licensed wildlife rehabber, and information will be provided on our website. In alignment with our mission of compassionate care, this will allow our wildlife and clinic staff to focus more productively on wildlife in need of medical care only.

Third, in an effort to be more available to the public that we are here to serve, we are making changes to our shelter operating hours. Starting on September 1st, our Shelter operating hours are as follows:
Monday: Closed
Tuesday-Friday: Noon to 6pm
Saturday and Sunday: 10am to 4pm

Additionally, we are excited to announce that the VBSPCA main shelter will be undergoing some renovations in the year ahead. We will break ground on a variety of improvements, including additional clinic exam space, our Dog Yard Expansion Project, lobby renovations, and updates to our shelter retail space. As we continue to innovate to improve, it is an exciting time for our organization and a great collaborative time for our staff.  We look forward to being in continued service to the community for many years to come…most of all, for the animals.
