The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) contacted the Virginia Beach Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (VBSPCA) to assist in the Nancy Silverman Rescue Ride relocation transport on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. The ASPCA launched this program in January, which is responsible for setting up routine live animal transports to relocate adoptable dogs in need from the Southeast to the Northeast by partnering with certain sources and destination partners. The aim of the program is to allow these dogs a better chance for adoption and assist affiliated shelters in great need. In May, they ASPCA will assist 3 under-resourced shelters in Eastern Tennessee, which are each undergoing shelter renovations in order to increase their shelter capacity.
Michelle Cascio, Director of the ASPCA Community Initiatives Animal Relocation Team made first contact with the VBSPCA earlier this month. She explains that the shelters being assisted by the Nancy Silverman Rescue Ride program this month have a desperate need for transport destinations from outside of their community, and they are so appreciative of the VBSPCA’s willingness to help.
Some people think that the ASPCA acts as the central SPCA in our nation, responsible for funding each affiliate and providing rules and regulations to all shelters in the country. However, all Humane Societies and SPCAs throughout our nation are rather unique and independent organizations responsible for their own policies and procedures and sustaining their own finances. The Virginia Beach SPCA is a 501(C)3 wholistic, adoption-focused animal shelter. We rely entirely on private donations to support our vital services of housing and caring for homeless animals and providing programs to our community that further our mission of increasing compassion and decreasing the tolerance for cruelty. We receive no tax dollars and we are not affiliated with any other SPCA or Humane Society. The VBSPCA aims to help out shelters in need, and participates in multiple animal transfers each month from other area shelters.
Can't adopt but still want to help out? Your tax deductible donation will be put to work immediately, giving these critters top-notch care while they wait for their new families. http://vbspca.com/donations/general-donations
