Spring is officially here, and May is filled with a variety of fun opportunities for you to support the VBSPCA and our mission of compassion. There will be fundraisers, local festivals, adoption awareness campaigns, and even a family run, and you can read all about them below.
May 5: Groom-a-Thon
Come support the VBSPCA Junior Volunteers at our Main Shelter on Saturday, May 5th, between 10AM and 2PM. Dogs will be bathed and towel-dried by our Junior Volunteers with products available to purchase and recommended by the VBSPCA, including our own VBSPCA products and Earthbath All Natural items. Dog baths are offered for a $5 donation, and you can read more here.
May 5: Equi-Kids 5K Cross Country Run and Family Fun
The VBSPCA will be supporting the 16th annual Equi-Kids Cross Country Run. Our staff will be onsite providing information about our programs, and some of our furry friends will be there, too. More information and registration is available here.
May 19th: VBSPCA Donation Pure Barre Class
Join Pure Barre Virginia Beach in supporting the Virginia Beach SPCA! Class is donation based and all donations benefit SPCA. Pure Barre will be donating $5 for every package sold on the day of the event as well. Sign up for the class by using the link below, space is limited. May 19th: Landstown Community Civic League Spring Fling
Spring is officially here, and the Landstown community will be celebrating the season with their annual Spring Fling. Come out and support the community with games, pets, food, drinks, entertainment, and more. We will see you there!
May 17th -19th: National Adoption Weekend at Petsmart
Stop by the Landstown or Pembroke Petsmart locations for a weekend dedicated to adoptable animals. We will be onsite with some of our furry friends, so stop by to say hello. We will be there on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 2 pm.
May 26th: NEX Oceana Pet Event
Come out to the Oceana Naval Exchange for a day of pet festivities! From 10 am to 1 pm, VBSPCA staff will be onsite with some of our adoptable animals, and the Neuter Scooter will be offering a vaccine clinic from 11 am to noon.
May 26th & 27th: Pungo Strawberry Festival
The 35th annual strawberry festival is happening on Memorial Day weekend, and the VBSPCA will be there for the fun. In addition to all the mouth-watering strawberries you can imagine, there will be entertainment, pony rides, down-home-style food, an Armed Forces display area, carnival rides for all ages, 4H events, a youth art exhibit, pig races, and more. We will have adoptable animals on site, too, so make sure to stop by to say hello.
May 26th & 27th: Help Pups and Save on Cups at Tervis Virginia Beach
Stop by the Tervis store in Virginia Beach and get 15% off your purchase when you bring in dog food, blankets, cat food, treats, small animal toys, and more.
All month long: Summon your inner artist for MOCA’s Open Call Art Exhibition. This year, the Virginia Beach Museum of Contemporary Art has partnered with the Virginia Beach SPCA for their annual open call exhibition, and the community is invited to submit pieces inspired by a theme that sits at the heart of the VBSPCA mission: Compassion. In addition to the May events, you can always support the VBSPCA by shopping at Kroger. All you have to do is sign up to participate, swipe your Plus Card when you shop, and a portion of the sale will be donated back to the VBSPCA! Sign up to participate here.
And, as always, be sure to support the VBSPCA by shopping at Second Chance Thrift on Shore Drive. Second Chance Thrift was recently featured on InsideBusiness.com as the best thrift store in the state of Virginia! They are big supporters of the the VBSPCA, and a portion of all sales are donated to the shelter.
