Activity of the Month

The Virginia Beach SPCA offers educational activities or challenges to engage children at home. From writing competitions to art challenges to kindness calendars, we continue to provide new ways to spread the mission of the VBSPCA while also having a little bit of fun in this new virtual landscape.

 Junior Picasso Youth Art Challenge

March is Art Month, and the Virginia Beach SPCA has partnered with the Virginia Beach Art Center for an animal-themed art competition! Children ages 6-14 are invited to choose from the inspiration prompts below and create their very own masterpiece:

  1. Create a portrait of your own pet
  2. Create a portrait of a VBSPCA adoptable animal. Visit our adoptable animal page and find your muse, or use one of the photos below.
  3. Create your own piece of art inspired by the theme of Pet Companionship

Artwork can be created in any medium, and all pieces must be sized to 8.5 x 11. Three winners will be chosen from each of the following age groups: 6-8, 9-11, 12-14. Winners will be put on display at the Virginia Beach Art Center from April 6-11 and the Virginia Beach SPCA from April 13-18. Artwork can be dropped off at the Virginia Beach SPCA located at 3040 Holland Road any day between 11am and 6pm. All artwork must be submitted by March 31st at 6pm.
