Activity of the Month

Each month, the Virginia Beach SPCA offers a new educational activity or challenge to engage children at home. From writing competitions to art challenges to kindness calendars, we continue to provide new ways to spread the mission of the VBSPCA while also having a little bit of fun in this new virtual landscape.

August – Make a VBSPCA Cage Card

We are calling all children to participate in this new virtual activity to help find homes for our shelter animals! Our adoptable animals rely on what we call “cage cards” to help tell their story to potential adopters. We are recruiting young animal lovers to help with this very important task and together we will find forever homes for some very special animals.

Here’s how it works: Each Friday throughout the month of August, we will be hosting a Facebook live with one of our shelter pets. Participating children will fill out our Cage Card Template (download template here) while listening to the facebook live. They will fill in information including the pet’s name, age, sex, and any other important information about the pet’s personality. Children are strongly encouraged to ask additional questions to help create a very special and unique cage card for our shelter animals. There is even space where they can draw the animals “photo.” If you don’t yet follow us on Facebook, you can visit our page here.

Once the cage card is complete, you can either drop it off at the shelter or email it to humaneeducation@vbspca.com. We will hang them up in our building and share some on our social media pages!

Tune in on the following dates to participate:

  • Friday, August 7 at 2pm
  • Friday, August 14 at 2pm
  • Friday, August 21 at 2pm
  • Friday, August 28 at 2pm

*Facebook live videos will be available on our Facebook page after the live is complete, so you can still participate if you cannot make the live program.
