The different ways VBSPCA is going green
Recycling containers throughout the building
Shut off lights when rooms not in use including visiting rooms
Decreased trash pick up and increased recycling pick up
Reduced the number of plastic bags we use
Using recycled paper and environmentally friendly ink in quarterly newsletter
Modified our Wish List to include green products
Ordering more environmentally-friendly office products
Host recycling events at our shelter
Participate in events that encourage the public to be environmentally conscious
Participate in water clean up events such as Clean the Bay Day and those coordinated by Lynnhaven River NOW
Converted coffee station from individual serving sizes to bulk
Scoop the Poop campaign including visits to after school Green Clubs at local elementary and middle schools
Passive aeration composters for:
o Small mammal waste seven days per week
o Dog waste one day per week
o Uneaten dry dog and cat food
o Dryer lint
o Compostable cat litter such as Yesterdays News and Feline Pine
Worm composter for kitchen waste (coffee grounds & filters, veggies, fruits, etc.)
Converted our BMP to a wetland using native plants and bushes
Planted a butterfly garden
Build a playhouse with a green roof
Installed eight rainbarrels around the shelter
Installed gutters and rainchains
Conducted an energy audit of the building in order to improve efficiency
Parking lot
Collects these items for bulk recycling:

Dryer Vent Heat Recovery Unit used to heat Dog Green Room
The Virginia Beach SPCA has been involved with keeping the environment clean for years with the Poop Pollutes Campaign and our humane education programs to thousands of children each year . By disposing of pet waste properly it helps to keep the land, water and air clean. The Going Green Campaign expands on the Virginia Beach SPCA philosophy of preserving the environment. It’s the right thing to do and is part of being a responsible partner in keeping the environment clean.
