Junior volunteers assist kennel and cattery staff in the day-to-day operations of the shelter. Cleaning and customer service are a major part of the junior volunteer’s duties. Although junior volunteers handle animals frequently, there is very little "playtime". Interested teens should fill out an application, which you can print from this site or pick up from the shelter. Orientations are by invitation only, in the order we receive applications; orientations are held three times a year. AFTER you apply, you will be sent your scheduled date (approximately 3-4 weeks before the orientation).

Many teens between the ages of 13-17 are required to do community service in order to fulfill school obligations.  We would love to have them complete their hours either within the shelter or for the shelter in their community.  Since space is limited within the shelter, many teens opt to hold food drives, dog washes, and other projects specifically geared to help the Virginia Beach SPCA.  If you would like to hold an SPCA sponsored event, volunteer within the shelter, or have any other ideas of ways that you can help our homeless critters, please contact our Youth Programs director at youthprograms@vbspca.com,  our Junior Volunteer Coordinator at cat@vbspca.com, or by phone 427-0070 ext 13 with comments or questions, or download an application using the link below.
