Donate Your Used Vegetable Oil!
The Virginia Beach SPCA's Neuter Scooter is going Green!

The Virginia Beach SPCA is proud to announce that we are going green. The Neuter Scooter regularly brings spay/neuter services and low cost vaccines to areas outside of Virginia Beach and now, in addition to helping pets and their owners, the Neuter Scooter is reducing its impact on the environment. Outfitted with a conversion unit, the Neuter Scooter has the ability to utilize vegetable-based oil as an alternative fuel source. It takes an estimated 250 gallons of purified vegetable-based oil to allow the Neuter Scooter to continue serving, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Franklin and the Eastern Shore. You can help us by donating your used liquid vegetable oil.

We are asking the public to “Don’t Be a Turkey – Give Us Your Grease!” During the holidays, many people enjoy frying turkey and we want you to help us by giving us the grease from your turkey fryer. Just bring your used frying oil such as vegetable, sunflower, peanut, canola and olive oil (no animal based oils) returned to the original container and place them in green collection bins located in the parking lot of the Virginia Beach SPCA. The Virginia Beach SPCA will be a collection site where the public can always bring their used vegetable-based oil, which can be dropped off even if the shelter is closed.
The Virginia Beach SPCA has been involved with keeping the environment clean for years with the “Poop Pollutes” Campaign and our humane education programs to thousands of children each year . By disposing of pet waste properly it helps to keep the land, water and air clean. The “Going Green” Campaign expands on the Virginia Beach SPCA philosophy of conserving the environment. It’s the right thing to do and is part of being a responsible partner in keeping the environment clean. For more information on the “Going Green” Campaign, please contact Karla Campbell, Development Director, at development@vbspca.com or 427-0070 Ext. 14.
